A Guatemalan cooking masterclass

Standard

In early March I was invited to a Guatemalan cooking class hosted by the Guatemala tourist board and Branding Latin America. It took place at Atelier des Chefs. As part of the evening we attempted to make traditional Guatemalan food. Although the sheer number of people made it difficult to have an individual counter! That didn’t matter since the evening was so much fun!

Here are pictures from the evening.

Some people made Ceviche. Its looks a lot like salsa but with fish added to it.

There was Guatemalan hot dogs, beef cooked in a coffee sauce and chicken cooked in Tamarind reduction. Being a veggie I didn’t get to try anything but it was still a fun evening!

Rice pudding with a dash of cinnamon.

This I did try and it was delicious! The rice perfectly cooked and the right amount of nutmeg, cinnamon and cardamom.

Guatemalan Rum. Pretty strong stuff!

All the different alcohol available. All Guatemalan of course.

This guy made some nice cocktails but the one that stood out was a Rum, tamarind extract and 7up!

All in all it was a fun evening, I am not sure how authentic a class this was but it was great to meet other people. This was an invitation through my work so most of the people there were from travel agencies and tour operators.

Have a great weekend!
